To earn a minor in Asian American Studies, students must complete 18 credits of coursework.
Students are required to take the following core courses (9 credits):
- AMST 200: What is An American? (offered every semester)
- AMST 300: Approaches in American Studies (WI) (offered every fall)
- AMST 375: Studies in Asian American Culture (offered every semester)
Students must select an additional three related elective courses (9 credits).
- One course must be in AMST. It should be a course related to Asian American studies, Asian diaspora studies, ethnic studies or a related subject. See examples below:
- AMST 365 – South Asian American Studies (3)
- AMST 377/ASIA 377 – Pacific Worlds (3)
- AMST 464 – Narratives of Contemporary U.S. Immigration (3)
- AMST 490 – Senior Seminar (3) The course can be the AMST 490: Senior Seminar, if the student chooses a topic focused on Asian American cultural studies or Asian diaspora studies (offered every spring).
- The remaining 6 elective credits can be from any department or program and in any topic related to Asia or ethnic studies. These electives must be approved by the Asian American Studies minor director. See the Asian Studies Program’s list of current courses for possible courses that may fulfill this requirement.
